Critical Thinking Dispositions of Undergraduate College Students in A Comprehensive University of Mainland China

This study was undertaken to assess the critical thinking dispositions of undergraduate college students in a comprehensive university mainland China and examine roles gender major subjects’ dispositions. An adapted Chinese version California Critical Thinking Dispositions Inventory (CCTDI) used survey 534 students. Statistics revealed that over 3/4 subjects were negative their think critically, no more than 1/4 them positive. All subscale mean scores between 30-35, indicating an ambivalent attitude thinking. Meanwhile, stronger systematicity, truth-seeking, self-confidence analyticity, inquisitiveness, cognitive maturity. Besides, males got significantly higher overall dispositions, maturity, open-mindedness, justice-orientedness, added CCTDI. Finally, science-engineering achieved non-significant score non-science-engineering They also scored seven out eight subscales, but differences only significant open-mindedness justice-orientedness.
